Dear Hawks family

With the continued rise in prominence of female sport, there has been much discussion in public and the press around white uniforms, and the comfort levels of young women playing competitive sport. Press coverage across AFLW and Cricket has addressed the subject along with recent studies.

At the Banyule Hawks, we are committed to not only having as many girls as possible play our sport, but retaining them as they mature in their teens by removing as many barriers as possible.

Longer term we may address the existing uniform design and colour, particularly white shorts, however we recognise that has a cost impact to all members, so the lead up to that will be carefully planned and communicated well in advance of any changes.

As a result, we are pleased to introduce an option our girls can access now, by partnering with iAthletic to create a black compression short with Banyule Hawks branding that can be worn under our white playing shorts.

iAthletic are currently the uniform supplier to the WNBL, so these are a high-quality garments, in a female specific cut. The club will help subsidise the price, and the cost to members will be $25 which is very competitive when compared to some other well-known athletic brands. These female compression shorts will be available to try on and purchase at the Girls Showcase on Saturday 29th July at the Latrobe Sports Stadium.

We continue to work with iAthletic on a male specific compression short and hope to make these available for the summer season 2023, however for the club, the female option was a clear priority.

Regards,
Banyule Hawks Committee
